Dhanbad, Mar 31: Retired associate professor of the microbiology department of Shahid Nirmal Mahto Medical College Hospital (SNMMCH) Dhanbad Dr Shyawar Sharan and his wife Dr Renuka Sharma, retired senior medical officer of Bharat Coking Coal Limited (BCCL) died in a road accident under Sherghati police station of Gaya district of Bihar in the late afternoon on March 31.
The Head of microbiology department at SNMMCH Dr BK Singh said that both doctors were coming to Dhanbad from Chapra of Bihar when their car collided with a truck in Sherghati.
Dr Shyawar Sharan was head of the department of microbiology of SNMMCH Dhanbad. In August 2019 he was transferred to Phulo Jhano Medical College Hospital (PJMCH) Dumka where he retired one year later in March 2020.
His wife Dr Renuka Sharma was a senior medical officer of BCCL health service and was posted as Bhuli regional hospital chief. She retired from services in 2018. They have left two daughters and both of them are living abroad.
As the accident report reached pall of gloom descended at SNMMCH Dhanbad and PJMCH Dumka.
Director of medical education of the health department Dr Arun Kumar, who is also principal of Dumka medical college expressed deep shock over the death of Dr Sharan. “We both came to Dumka medical college together. In August 2019 I came to Dumka from MGMMCH Jamshedpur and he came from SNMMCH Dhanbad and he was a very gentle person”, said Dr Kumar.
SNMMCH Dhanbad principal Dr Jyoti Ranjan Prasad, superintendent Dr AK Barnbal, professor( Dr) UK Ojha, Dr BK Singh, Dr Sujit Tiwari, Palamu Medical College principal Dr Shailendra Kumar (who was also principal of SNMMCH), Dr Vinit Tigga of FMT, Dr DK Singh retired senior medical officer of BCCL health services expressed great shock over the death of Dr Sharan and his wife.
