The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved the proposal to appoint retired Supreme Court judge Justice Ashok Bhushan as the chairperson of the National Company Law Appellate Tribunal (NCLAT).

The appointment will be for a period of four years or till he attains the age of 70 or until further orders, whichever is earlier, reports Bar and Bench.

The NCLAT has been functioning with officiating chairperson since former chairperson Justice SJ Mukhopadhaya demitted office upon completion of his tenure in March 2020.

Subsequently, Justice Bansi Lal Bhat and Justice AIS Cheema served as officiating chairperson. After Justice Cheema’s retirement, Justice M Venugopal, a former Madras High Court judge, has been serving as officiating chairperson.
