Ranchi, March 8: The RIMS team, led by Dr Vineet Mahajan, successfully performed a bypass surgery without the use of anaesthesia.

Nuraisha Khatoon, a 57-year-old woman from Hazaribagh, benefited from the Awake Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting (Awake CABG) procedure.

The operation, which took place on March 6, had not been performed in the country in the previous ten years. This is the first time such an operation has been performed in Jharkhand.

The patient and doctors continued to converse throughout the three-hour operation.

The RIMS team included cardiothoracic and vascular surgery (CTVS) specialists as well as anaesthetists.

Dr. Mahajan, professor and head of the department of cardiothoracic and vascular surgery, stated that the operation is a significant accomplishment for RIMS because it will benefit more patients in Jharkhand and neighbouring states in the future.

RIMS is an autonomous institute under the Jharkhand government. Dr. Mahajan’s efforts elevated it to new heights.
