Ranchi, June 28: Ranchi Municipal Corporation has planned to construct a total of 75 new ponds in the city by August 15, 2023, to deal with the problem of water scarcity.

Out of the 75, 30 ponds will be constructed by August 15 this year and the remaining 45 ponds will be made by August 15, 2023. Excavation of ponds is going to start soon.

Ranchi Deputy Commissioner Chhavi Ranjan has ordered the officials that the construction work of the pond should be completed at the earliest in the area which will be identified. Along with the construction of the pond, plants will be planted around for a better environment. Apart from this, fish farming will also be done in the ponds.

The DC has said that by August 15, the construction of the 30 ponds will be completed. A target has been set to make 75 ponds by next year. Orders have been issued to all the officials related to this.

A total of 83 sites have been identified through remote sensing for pond construction in Ranchi. Notably, a total of 75 lakes will be constructed and renovated at these sites.

During remote sensing, many lands were selected for the construction of cremation grounds, rivers, and lands and ponds in rocky areas. Physical verification of these areas was done. The district administration says that other places are also being looked upon. The construction will be completed as per the scheduled time.

Currently, there are 42 ponds in Ranchi but most of them are in a bad situation. Most of the ponds have completely dried up. The Municipal Corporation has now issued an order that concrete will not be used in ponds for beautification to maintain the water level.

The issue of water scarcity is on the rise in the Jharkhand capital. Gradually, every area of the city is being declared a dry zone one by one. There are many areas where underground boring has completely failed. In such a situation, if 75 ponds are constructed in Ranchi under the Amrit Sarovar Yojana, the problem of water will almost come to an end and the water level will increase in every area.
