Ranchi: Leader of Opposition and BJP MLA Babulal Marandi has once again taken a sharp dig at the Hemant Soren-led Jharkhand government, alleging deep-rooted corruption in road construction projects. Through a strongly worded social media post, he accused the state government of layering “scams upon scams” under the pretext of infrastructure development.
“Corruption runs deep—starting at the top”
Marandi noted that the Chief Minister himself handles the Road Construction Department, implying that corruption in the department was inevitable:
“When the CM is in charge, how can the department lag behind in corruption?”
He claimed that it is an open secret how tenders are manipulated, and even when contracts are allotted at competitive rates, extra billing and under-the-table collections are used to inflate payments:
“Work is shown as being more than the actual, and payments are arbitrarily hiked.”
“Trying to get into Guinness Book of World Records—for scams”
The former CM sarcastically added:
“It seems CM Hemant Soren won’t stop until Guinness Book officials come and certify him for committing the most scams.”
Marandi cited an example from Pesharar village in Lohardaga district, where road construction is underway without any visible signs of gravel, bitumen, or GSB (Granular Sub-Base):
“They are simply dumping soil and sprinkling some material on top to pretend the job is done.”
He explained that GSB is the base layer that holds the structural strength of any road, and its absence is a serious flaw.
“The entire government is built on corruption”
Calling the current regime structurally unsound, he wrote:
“When a government itself is based on scams, why would its roads survive the rains?”
Marandi demanded an immediate inquiry and strict action against those responsible. He also warned that instead of acting on corruption, the government might:
“Harass the whistleblower—file false cases against those recording such wrongdoing, as has become a trend under this regime.”
