New Delhi, Dec 19: India captain Rohit Sharma will not play in the second and final Test of the two-game series against Bangladesh, which will be contested in Dhaka beginning on December 22, according to reports.
According to sources, Rohit won’t be making the trip to Dhaka after missing the first Test due to a thumb injury sustained during the second ODI against Bangladesh. Rohit Sharma, the captain of India, was unable to participate in the opening Test match in Chattogram due to a finger injury he acquired in the second ODI against Bangladesh.
The medical staff discovered after a special consultation in Mumbai that this ongoing injury was keeping him out of action and even forcing him out of the first Test against Bangladesh. In the second and final Test of the series, which India leads 1-0, vice-captain KL Rahul will take over as team captain because Rohit won’t be going to Dhaka.
Not only Rohit Sharma, but other more cricketers, including Ravindra Jadeja (shoulder injury), Mohammad Shami (back), and Jasprit Bumrah (back injury), were unable to join the Indian team (knee injury). These elite players were unable to recover in time and were therefore disqualified from both Test matches.
India improved their prospects of making the ICC World Test Championship final in 2019 with a commanding 188-run victory over a resilient Bangladesh in the opening Test against the hosts on Sunday in Chattogram.
The majority of the damage was done by the spinners Axar Patel (4/77) and Kuldeep Yadav (3/73) who combined for seven Bangladesh wickets in the second innings. As a result, India moved up to second place in the World Test Championship standings.
