Ranchi, Aug 2: The suspended Congress leader Irfan Ansari’s father defended his son on Tuesday by arguing that Rs 16 lakhs is not a large sum of money for routine business travels after Irfan Ansari was detained in West Bengal with bundles of cash.
“Rs 16 lakhs isn’t a huge amount of money. He keeps going to Kolkata to make purchases related to business as a part of routine work. Allegations of cash worth crores recovered proved wrong,” said Furquan Ansari in an interview with ANI.
“An explanation should have been sought from the MLAs before taking action against them,” he added.

On being asked why the Jharkhand leader visited the northeast, he said, “Why can’t one go to Guwahati, is it outside of India? When there is a good school there, then why can’t one go there? Matter of investigation is if BJP is trying to topple the Jharkhand govt, can’t say anything on it.”
Notably, Irfan Ansari, Rajesh Kachchap, and Naman Bixal Kongari, three Congress MLAs from Jharkhand, were detained by the West Bengal Police and remanded to 10 days’ CID detention after a sizable sum of money was found inside an SUV with the legislators inside. They were then expelled from the party.
