Ranchi, Dec. 5: The one-member judicial inquiry commission, headed by former Jharkhand High Court Chief Justice Vinod Kumar Gupta, probing into the death of Sub Inspector Rupa Tirkey, has sought extension of the commission by January 15.

The tenure of the commission is going to end on December 8.

According to sources, the government is likely to give extension to the commission in a day or two. The commission is likely to submit its report before January 15.

Earlier, the commission had informed that 18 persons submitted their statements and claims regarding the suspicious death of Rupa Tirkey.

The commission was formed by the state government to ensure a fair probe in the matter at a time when Jharkhand police was also carrying out an investigation. Later, the Jharkhand High Court ordered a CBI probe into the case.

26-year-old Rupa Tirkey was posted at Mahila police station in Sahebganj district. She was found hanging at her official quarter in the morning of May 3. While the police initially concluded it as the case of suicide it later arrested her colleague SK Kanaujia for abetment of suicide. But the family blamed their daughter was murdered by some influential persons and moved a petition for the CBI probe at Jharkhand High Court.

The single bench of Justice Sanjay Kumar Dwivedi ordered the CBI probe and the CBI has taken over the investigation also.

Meanwhile, a special Ranchi court has also ordered for lodging an FIR against Chief Minister Hemant Soren’s MLA representative Pankaj Mishra, Ranchi City SP and two other police officers after hearing the complaint filed by Rupa’s mother Padmavati Devi under SC/ST Act.
