Mumbai, Nov 7: Dnyandev Wankhede, the father of Narcotics Control Bureau’s (NCB) Mumbai zonal director Sameer Wankhede has reportedly filed a defamation suit against Maharashtra minister and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Nawab Malik in the Bombay high court on Sunday and sought Rs1.25 crore in damages.
The suit reportedly states the Nawab Malik has done “irreparable loss, damage, harm, prejudice to the name, character, reputation and societal image of plaintiff and his family members,” besides destroying the practice of the senior Wankhede’s daughter Yasmeen, a criminal lawyer who has nothing to do with the case.
Malik has been calling the Wankhede family “fraud and questioning their religious beliefs, saying they are not Hindus,” said Wankhede’s lawyer, Arshad Shaikh.
Dhyandev also demanded a permanent injunction restraining Malik, his party members and all others acting under or on his instructions from publishing, writing or speaking in the media about Wankhede and his family members.
Notably, Malik had alleged that Wankhede was born Muslim but he forged documents, including his caste certificate to pass off as a SC person to get recruitment under quota after clearing UPSC. Earlier BJP leader Mohit Kamboj has also filed a 100 crore defamation suit against Malik in Bombay high court.
