New Delhi, April 11: The Supreme Court on Tuesday sought responses from Tamil Nadu and Bihar in response to a petition filed by a YouTuber who had been detained for allegedly spreading bogus footage of migrant workers being abused in the southern state. The petition asked for the clubbing of the FIRs that had been filed against him.
The Centre, the Tamil Nadu, and the Bihar governments were served with the notice by a bench of Justices Krishna Murari and Sanjay Karol, who also requested their responses within a week about the claim made by Manish Kashyap.
The hearing date has been set on April 21. Kashyap’s senior attorney Siddhartha Dave said that the petitioner was being investigated by five different authorities in two different states.

One offence cannot result in several actions, Dave remarked in reference to the case of journalist Arnab Goswami.
“I am praying that let Bihar FIR be the lead FIR. Let there be a hands-off approach in other FIRs… I am being taken to Tamil Nadu where I do not even understand the language. This is astounding and threatening the sovereignty of the nation,” Dave said.
At this, Justice Karol said, “On a lighter note, even I am a migrant from Bihar.” “This statement speaks a lot now,” Justice Murari said.
Senior advocate Kapil Sibal, appearing for Tamil Nadu, said Kashyap’s action has resulted in deaths and it is not a simple matter. Sibal said that Kashyap had already been held under the National Security Act and asked for more time to submit a response.
The attorney for Kashyap informed the Supreme Court that his client has now been charged under the NSA in addition to asking for the quashing of the FIRs that had been filed against him in connection with the same purported cause of action.
