New Delhi, March 24: The inquiry into the cases against former Mumbai Police Commissioner Param Bir Singh was moved to the Central Bureau of Investigation on Thursday by the Supreme Court.

Param Bir Singh’s appeal was approved by a bench consisting of Justices Sanjay Kishan Kaul and M.M. Sundresh, who shifted the investigation into five FIRs filed against him from Maharashtra Police to the CBI.

“We do believe there is some inter se concerted effort being made which requires investigation by agency outside the state police. We are of the opinion that state itself should have offered for investigation to be carried out” the bench said.

The Bombay High Court’s refusal to accept Singh’s plea was overturned by the bench. The Supreme Court ruled that the High Court made an error in how it viewed the case.

We are unable to accept the findings of the High court which treats these are service disputes. We set aside the HC verdict”, said the bench.

Notably, six cases of corruption and extortion were filed against him after he wrote a letter to Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray levelling corruption and misconduct against the then Home Minister and Senior NCP leader Anil Deshmukh.
