Jamshedpur, July 5: The continuous efforts to accomplish the mission of the “Zero Scrap” zone resulted in South Eastern Railway becoming the first Zonal Railway zone to achieve Rs.100 crore scrap sale by June 20 in the first quarter current financial year 2022-23.
Making the South Eastern Railway a “Zero Scrap” railway was one of the missions of this zone. Necessary steps were being taken by all the divisions and workshops to realise value from the sale of unserviceable materials lying along tracks, workshops, sheds, coaching depots etc.
South Eastern Railway has also earned a total revenue of Rs 110.52 crore from scrap sales in the first quarter of the current fiscal which is 194.34 % higher than the corresponding period of the last fiscal and also the highest amongst all the zones of Indian Railways.
This has been achieved by the sale of scrap rails, ferrous and non-ferrous materials, condemned coaches, wagons, loco and track machines, abandoned quarters and cabins etc.
The scrap lots have been sold on a competitive and transparent e-auction platform.
Officials said the sale of scrap materials helps in revenue generation and also in maintaining better upkeep of the railway premises.
