Kathua: An exchange of gunfire erupted between security forces and terrorists in the Bani area of Kathua district in Jammu and Kashmir, according to the Indian Army. The confrontation began after security personnel launched a search operation based on intelligence reports indicating the presence of terrorists in the region.
The joint operation by the police and security forces led to contact with the terrorists, resulting in an exchange of fire. “A few rounds have been fired from both sides,” the Indian Army stated in a brief announcement. The area has been cordoned off, and efforts to neutralize the threat are ongoing.
Further details are awaited as the operation progresses.
This incident comes a day after security forces eliminated three terrorists in the Chak Tapper Kreeri area of Baramulla district in north Kashmir. That operation was hailed as a “significant success” ahead of the upcoming assembly elections in the region.
Brigadier Sanjay Kannoth, Commander of the Army’s 10 Sector Rashtriya Rifles, commented on the previous operation, stating that security forces acted promptly upon receiving intelligence about terrorist movements. “Our units were fired upon by terrorists hiding in a disused building,” Brigadier Kannoth said.
The security forces returned fire and successfully neutralized the terrorists after an intense firefight that continued throughout the night. Brigadier Kannoth emphasized the importance of these operations in light of the forthcoming assembly elections, describing them as a disruption of “nefarious Pakistani designs” in the Kashmir Valley.
