Mumbai, Nov.22: Today’s benchmark indices plunged more than 2.50 percent, with the Sensex losing more than 1,500 points and the Nifty dropping below 17,300. The Sensex fell 1,575 points, or 2.64 percent, to 58,100 points. The Nifty fell more than 450 points, or 2.51%, to trade below 17,300.
During the morning trading session, the 30-scrip Sensitive Index opened lower. It began at 59,710 points, up from 59,636 points at the previous close. It has reached a high of 59,778 and a low of 58,011 so far.
The broader 50-scrip Nifty, on the other hand, began at 17,796 points after closing at 17,764 on Thursday. It traded between 17,805 and 17,280, with a high of 17,805 and a low of 17,280.
In other Asian markets, stocks were mixed as Wall Street ended the week mainly negative, despite the Nasdaq’s first close above 16,000 points. The Shanghai Composite index increased by 0.6 percent to 3,582.77, while Hong Kong’s Hang Seng index fell by 0.6 percent to 24,888.11. The Nikkei 225 index in Tokyo regained some of its earlier losses, rising 0.1 percent to 29,774.11. The S&P/ASX 500 index in Australia fell 0.6 percent to 7,353.10.
