Patna, Jan 15: Seven people were found dead under mysterious circumstances in Bihar’s Nalanda. One is still in critical condition. According to sources their health deteriorated after drinking alcohol.
The incident happened in Sohsarai police station area of the district. The deceased include Bhago Mistry, (55); Manna Mistry, (55); Dharmendra alias Nageshwar (50) and Kalicharan (50). Meanwhile, Ramroop Chauhan and Shivji Chauhan of Prabhu Vigha village of Manpur police station area also were found dead. Both are above 45 years of age.
After receiving information, SHO Suresh Prasad, Sadar DSP Dr Shibli Nomani reached the spot. However, there has not been any official confirmation regarding the cause of death being consumption of spurious liquor. Although locals have already started pointing fingers at liquor makers in the area, it is alleged that the victims’ health deteriorated after consumption of said liquor.
Lalita Devi said, ‘My husband felt restless at night. He drank some water, but died on the way to the hospital. He had consumed the liquor sold in the village. Manna Mistry’s daughter Preeti Devi said, ‘Father had come from outside after drinking alcohol. He had a headache. He was given medicine, but he died after a while. He would often come home drunk. Sometimes he would drink even at home.
Notably, earlier 568 were arrested after 40 deaths due to spurious liquor in October-November, 2021 in Gopalganj, Bettiah and Samastigpur.
Since 2016, 36 people have died due to spurious liquor in Gopalganj. This also includes 17 deaths this year. Earlier in 2016, 19 people died due to consumption of spurious liquor. This incident took place in Khajurbani on 15-16 August, 2016. Also, in a case on March 5, 2021, the special court also sentenced 13 people for the same. For the first time, 9 were hanged in the liquor scandal, while 4 got life imprisonment.
