Patna, Sept 14: Seven police officials were suspended after two bike-riders in Bihar’s Begusarai opened fire on NH-28 and NH-31, killing one person and gravely wounding at least nine others on Tuesday night. The injured are all receiving treatment at various private hospitals.

Checkpoints have been set up throughout the district in the wake of the incident, and police are undertaking searches to apprehend the offenders.

Yogendra Kumar, the Begusarai police superintendent, claimed that CCTV footage showed the two guys who started shooting on the national highways. The first volley of gunfire was reportedly heard on NH-28 in the Teghra subdivision region, according to the police. Chandan Kumar, a 31-year-old male, was shot and killed.

“Prima facie, our patrolling party was on the streets. Still, they either couldn’t stop the criminals or couldn’t do checking. In this connection, seven Police officials have been suspended with immediate effect,” said ADG (HQ) Jitendra Singh Gangwar on Wednesday.
