Pune: Heavy rainfall has caused severe flooding in Pune and Kolhapur, disrupting normal life and leading to significant waterlogging in multiple areas. Schools have been closed, and several residential apartments in Pune’s Pimpri-Chinchwad area are flooded. Tragically, three individuals were electrocuted due to the waterlogging.

The fire department has deployed boats to rescue residents from severely affected neighborhoods such as Ekta Nagar, where water levels have reached waist height. The Baba Bhide bridge on the Mutha river has been submerged following the downpour, exacerbating the situation.

Pune collector Suhas Diwase has issued orders for the closure of all tourist spots in the district for the next 48 hours. Additionally, traffic movement on bridges at risk of submersion has been prohibited to ensure public safety.

The Khadakwasla dam has reached its full capacity due to the heavy rainfall, prompting an alert for residents living along the Mutha riverbank. In the Deccan Gymkhana area, three street food vendors—Abhishek Ghanekar, Akash Mane, and Shiva Parihar—were electrocuted early today while attempting to recover a handcart from a flooded street.

Mumbai is also experiencing heavy rainfall, resulting in flooding in some areas, including Dombivali. The Andheri Subway has been closed due to waterlogging. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) reported that Vihar Lake, one of the city’s seven water supply lakes, began overflowing early today.

The weather office has issued a red alert for Maharashtra, forecasting extremely heavy rain on Thursday. Residents are advised to stay indoors and take necessary precautions.
