Shashi Tharoor Shares Selfie with Piyush Goyal Amid Speculation on His Political Future

New Delhi: Congress MP Shashi Tharoor has once again sparked speculation about his political future after sharing a selfie with Union Minister Piyush Goyal. His recent remarks, which include praising the Modi government’s policies, have led to rumors of him exploring new political options.

Tharoor, who represents Thiruvananthapuram, has been vocal about feeling sidelined within the Congress. His support for Modi’s US visit, appreciation for the Pinarayi Vijayan-led Kerala government’s policies, and criticism of Kerala Congress leaders have fueled speculation about his next political move.

Praise for India-UK Trade Talks

Sharing the selfie, Tharoor mentioned, “Had a great discussion with UK’s Trade Minister Jonathan Reynolds and Commerce & Industry Minister Piyush Goyal. We welcome the revival of long-pending India-UK Free Trade Agreement (FTA) discussions.”

Congress Rift and Political Speculations

Tharoor had earlier written an article criticizing certain Kerala Congress leaders, while appreciating the state government’s development efforts and the Centre’s role in supporting them. His statements have raised questions about whether he is considering leaving Congress.

CPI(M) leader Thomas Isaac hinted at the possibility of Tharoor switching sides, saying, “If he leaves Congress, he won’t be alone. Our party has welcomed former Congress leaders before, and we will welcome Tharoor too.”

BJP’s Reaction

Kerala BJP leader Tom Vadakkan stated, “Tharoor has finally realized Congress’s reality. The party operates like a private limited company—run by the mother, managed by the son. Many Congress leaders, including Tharoor, may leave soon.”

Despite contesting the Congress presidential elections, Tharoor was removed from the All India Professionals Congress (AIPC) president’s post. Though he was later made a Congress Working Committee (CWC) member, reports suggest he remains dissatisfied.
