Kolkata, March 15: Legendary actor Shatrughan Sinha moved from the Indian National Congress to the Trinamool Congress on Tuesday. Sinha previously served as the leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party also.

“Happy to share that on an invite from our own, tigress of Bengal, tried, tested, successful honourable CM, Bengal, I have joined TMC. Shall be contesting under the dynamic leadership of a great lady, great leader of the masses in true sense, Mamata Banerjee,” he tweeted.

— Shatrughan Sinha (@ShatruganSinha) March 15, 2022

Notably, Sinha defected from the BJP to the Congress in 2019, claiming that the BJP had become a one-man show and that the PMO (Prime Minister’s Office) made all of the decisions.

Earlier on March 13, Mamata Banerjee, the Bengal chief minister and the leader of the TMC, announced that Shatrughan Sinha will run for the Asansol assembly seat in the West Bengal bypolls on April 12 on the party’s ticket. Following the resignation of BJP lawmaker Babul Supriyo, who joined the Trinamool Congress, the Asansol parliamentary seat became vacant.

Babul Supriyo will fight for the Ballygunge seat, which became vacant after TMC MLA Subrata Mukherjee died on November 4 last year while receiving treatment at the state-owned SSKM Hospital. Mukherjee served in Mamata Banerjee’s administration as a key minister.
