Mumbai: In a surprising political turn, Kashinath Chaudhary—previously identified by media reports as a key conspirator in the 2020 Palghar mob lynching of two Hindu monks—has now joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). The development has triggered widespread debate, especially since the incident had sparked national outrage five years ago.
Background of the Palghar Lynching Case
In April 2020, two monks and their driver were lynched by a violent mob in Gadchinchale village of Palghar, Maharashtra. Over 100 people were arrested. In the days following the incident, social media misinformation had escalated religious tension until the then state home minister clarified that both the victims and attackers belonged to the same religion.
Subsequent reports named Kashinath Chaudhary, then associated with the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), as a principal conspirator. At the time, BJP leaders had strongly criticised the Uddhav Thackeray government over the investigation.
Chaudhary Welcomed Into BJP
After remaining in the spotlight for years due to the case, Chaudhary has now been inducted into the BJP. He joined the party at an event in Dahanu, attended by BJP MP Hemant Savara and district president Bharat Rajput.
The move has left many questioning shifting political dynamics and the contrasting positions taken over the years.
Political Reactions and Public Questions
Observers note that Chaudhary’s induction raises significant questions about political consistency and the messaging that follows such decisions. Critics argue that the same individual once projected as the “mastermind” behind a sensitive case is now being embraced by the party that had earlier vehemently opposed him.
