Gangtok, Oct 9: The State Disaster Management Authority reported that the number of fatalities from the flash floods that ravaged North Sikkim last week has increased to 34 as of Monday, while 105 people are still listed as missing.

According to the Sikkim State Disaster Management Authority (SSDMA) report from October 9 at 10:00 am, 34 people have died. Additionally, it stated that 105 people had been reported missing.

There were 105 persons reported missing on October 8 in addition to the 33 reported fatalities.

The Indian Army said earlier today that the first group of tourists evacuated from Lachen by army helicopter had arrived at Ringhim Helipad in the Mangan district.

Following the recent flood incident, the Indian Army has been extending support to stranded tourists in Lachung, Sikkim, by offering medical assistance, food and communication services.

More than 1,700 stranded tourists, including 63 foreigners and locals, continued to get aid from the Trishakti Corps of the Indian Army.

Ajay Kumar Mishra, the Union Minister of State for Home Affairs, visited the flood-affected areas earlier in the day and spoke with flood victims at a relief camp in Mangan, Sikkim.
