New Delhi, July 25: Ajit Doval, the National Security Advisor (NSA), met with Wang Yi, a key diplomat from China, to discuss bilateral ties between India and China. The strategic trust between the two nations has “eroded” since 2020, NSA Doval said, who was speaking about the situation along the Line of Actual Control (LAC).
“The situation along the LAC in the Western Sector of the India-China boundary since 2020 has eroded strategic trust and the public and political basis of the relationship,” the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) quoted NSA Doval as saying.
For more than three years, India and China have been involved in a military standoff.
The gathering was held concurrently with the Friends of BRICS gathering in South Africa on Monday. It came days after Wang and Minister of External Affairs S. Jaishankar had a meeting.
The Communist Party of China Central Committee’s Office of the Foreign Affairs Commission is directed by Wang Yi.
The continuing military stalemate between China and India, according to S Jaishankar, is the most difficult task he has encountered in his tenure as a diplomat.
The bilateral relationship cannot resume normality unless there is peace in the border region, as India has repeatedly emphasised. This tension has endured for more than three years.
But Wang Yi emphasised the value of boosting strategic mutual trust and putting an emphasis on agreement and collaboration. He also emphasised the need to overcome challenges and quickly restart bilateral relations.
The two sides concurred that the bilateral relationship between China and India is important for the entire world as well as the two nations themselves.
Doval called for coordinated action to address cybersecurity-related problems at the Friends of BRICS gathering earlier on Monday.
The NSA also conducted numerous bilateral meetings with his BRICS country counterparts and friends. The BRICS Summit will be held in South Africa next month.
