Deoria, Oct 2: Six people were killed in a tragic incident connected to an ongoing land dispute in the Fatehpur village of the Deoria district, police stated on Monday.
District Magistrate Deoria, Akhand Pratap Singh, stated, “Among the deceased is a former district panchayat member, identified as Prem Yadav and Satya Prakash Dubey, a man from the rival group.”
Two women and two children from rival families were among the others dead.]
Giving information about the case, the official said, “The incident took place today morning in Fatehpur village of Rudrapur Kotwali area of ??Deoria district. A longstanding land dispute between two families took a tragic turn and six people were killed.”
“The former District Panchayat member Prem Yadav was the first to be murdered with a sharp weapon. After this, in retaliation to the murder, the family members of the deceased Prem Yadav shot five members of Satya Prakash Dubey and killed them on the spot,” said the DM.
“An eight-year-old boy has also been seriously injured in the incident,” he added.
The District Magistrate and a number of other police officers arrived at the location after learning about the incident.
The official further stated that one of the accused in the case had been apprehended by the police.
Due to the sensitive circumstances following the murders, police teams have been deployed in the region, the official added.
