Ahmedabad, Sep 14: The Indian Coast Guard and Gujarat Anti Terrorist Squad operation on Wednesday in a joint operation seized 40 kilogrammes of heroin worth Rs 200 crore from a Pakistani fishing boat off the Gujarat coast, according to a senior ATS official. He added that six of the boat’s Pakistani crew members were also detained.
A joint Coast Guard and ATS team located the drug-carrying fishing boat in the middle of the ocean close to Jakhau Harbour in the Kutch district, the official reported.
“In joint operation, Indian Coast Guard and Gujarat ATS apprehended a Pakistani boat 6 miles inside Indian waters with 40 kgs of drugs valued at Rs 200 cr. Two fast attack boats of ICG caught Pakistani boat 33 nautical miles off Jakhau coast in Gujarat,” said ICG officials.

“The heroin was meant to be transported to Punjab by road after being offloaded on the Gujarat coast. Based on a specific tip- off, we intercepted the boat which left from Pakistan, and caught six Pakistani nationals with 40 kg of heroin,” he added.

The state ATS and the Coast Guard had previously stopped similar drug smuggling operations and apprehended foreign persons in possession of massive amounts of drugs that they intended to transport into India via the Gujarat coast.
