Smriti Mandhana named in ICC Women’s T20I Team of 2021

India opening batter Smriti Mandana has been named in the XI.

New Delhi, Jan 19: Smriti Mandana, India’s opening batter was chosen to the Women’s T20I Team of the Year (2021) by the International Cricket Council (ICC) on Wednesday.

England’s Nat Sciver has been named captain, with Amy Jones taking up the wicket-keeping duties.

There is only one Indian on the team, however several English players have been named to the lineup. Smriti Mandhana was India’s highest run scorer in the format in 2021, with 255 runs at an average of 31.87. In the nine matches she played this year, she scored two fifties and helped her team get off to a fast start on a regular basis, as seen by her strike rate of 131.44.

Tammy Beaumont’s steady presence at the top of the order helped England get off to a consistent start on several occasions. She scored 303 runs at an average of 33.66 in nine matches, including three fifties.

Beaumont’s partner in crime at the top of the food chain, Danni Wyatt, had a similarly fantastic time in 2021. Wyatt scored 252 runs in nine matches, averaging 31.50 runs per match. While Beaumont was a steady presence at one end, Wyatt went after the bowlers, as seen by her strike rate of 133.33.
