Dhanbad, Aug 11: In the wake of patients’ heavy rush, the authority of Shahid Nirmal Mahto Medical College (SNMMCH) has enhanced and extended registration timing by half an hour for the OPD so that they do not return unattended.
SNMMCH superintendent Dr Anil Kumar said that for the last one week, it has been reported that some patients return daily unattended as they were not able to get registration for OPD within the fixed time due to long queues.
“Numbers of OPD patients have increased to 1500 to 1600 per day from 1000-1100. So, we had to extend OPD the registration timing for half an hour (till 12.30 pm). It was extended after getting the permission.
The health department has fixed the OPD registration timing from 8.30 am to 12 pm for medical colleges hospitals.
He said poor patients braving rains and other odds come to SNMMCH from Giridih, Jamtara besides different corners of the district with high hopes of treatment. “In such a situation I feel it is our responsibility they do not return without treatment,” said Superintendent Dr Anil Kumar who took charge on August 1.
The Superintendent said that his mission is to ensure health services to patients at par with corporate nursing homes with the available resources of the hospital. This could be possible with dedicated senior faculty members, doctors and health staff of the hospital. “So, I have focused on quality hygienic condition in the wards, the safety of patients,” he said.
He said not only patients, in fact, the hospital management has also prepared a rest house for attendants of patients as well as drinking water and other facilities on the campus for them.
