Kulgam: A soldier has been killed in an intense encounter between security forces and terrorists in the Kulgam district of Jammu and Kashmir. The confrontation began after the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), Army, and local police launched a joint operation in Modergam village based on intelligence reports about terrorist activity.

The situation quickly escalated as the security forces moved into the village, setting up a cordon to contain the militants. In the ensuing gunfire, one soldier sustained critical injuries and later succumbed to them in the hospital.

In a post on the social media platform X, Kashmir Zone Police confirmed the ongoing operation: “Encounter started at Modergam Village of Kulgam District. Police and Security Forces are on job. Further details shall follow.”

This incident is part of a recent surge in terrorist activities across Jammu and Kashmir, with multiple encounters reported in various districts. Last month, security forces successfully neutralized three terrorists in the Gandoh area of Doda district, highlighting the ongoing challenges faced by the region.

The security forces are continuing their search for the terrorists involved in the Kulgam encounter, with efforts underway to bring the situation under control and ensure the safety of the local population.
