CONRAD DIAS

Ranchi, April 8: The Special Olympics Jharkhand (SOJ), a sub-division of Special Olympics Bharat, has decided to set up dedicated sports centers for special athletes in four different districts of Jharkhand.

Satbir Singh Sahota, Treasurer at SOJ spoke to lagatar24.com and explained the initiative.

“The initiative is a part of Special Olympics Bharat (SOB) and for Jharkhand, a total of four sports centers will be set up in Jamshedpur, Bokaro, Dhanbad and Ranchi. We have selected these states because these places have the majority of activities when it comes to special athletes,” he said.

SOB has planned to build 750 sports centers across India for specially-abled athletes.

He added that the initial funding will be done by SOB but the rest should be borne by the state body. They are planning to associate with Coal India for the Dhanbad center whereas for the Ranchi center they will look to take help from the state body.

Bokaro Steel Plant has shown their support for the Bokaro Center whereas Tata Steel will be approached for the Jamshedpur center.

SOJ was founded in 2000 and has 34,923 athletes in 17 disciplines along with 4284 coaches, 244 trainers across 24 districts.
