Jaipur: A SpiceJet employee was arrested on Thursday for slapping a Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) officer during an argument over security screening procedures at Jaipur Airport. The incident, captured on video, has since gone viral.
Anuradha Rani, a food supervisor with SpiceJet, was intercepted by assistant sub-inspector Giriraj Prasad around 4 a.m. for allegedly not having proper authorization to use the “vehicle gate.” When directed to undergo screening at a different entrance, a heated argument ensued, culminating in Rani slapping the CISF officer, according to police and CISF officials.
Rani has been charged under sections of the Bharat Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and is currently under investigation. However, SpiceJet has come to her defense, alleging that she was subjected to sexual harassment.
A SpiceJet spokesperson stated that Rani had a valid airport entry pass and claimed she was subjected to inappropriate language and an unwelcome advance by the CISF officer. The airline is pursuing legal action against the CISF personnel for sexual harassment.
“An unfortunate incident occurred at Jaipur Airport involving a SpiceJet female security staff member and a male CISF personnel,” the spokesperson said. “While escorting a catering vehicle at the steel gate, our female security staff member, who had a valid airport entry pass issued by the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS), was subjected to inappropriate and unacceptable language by the CISF personnel, including an invitation to meet him after his duty hours at his home.”
SpiceJet expressed its full support for Rani, stating, “We are taking immediate legal action in this serious case of sexual harassment against our female employee and have approached the local police. We stand firmly by our employee and are committed to providing her with full support.”
A senior CISF official provided a different account, stating that Rani was asked to undergo mandatory screening at a nearby entrance designated for airline crew. Due to the unavailability of female CISF personnel at the time, Rani became agitated and slapped the on-duty CISF officer. “A case has been registered against her and she has been arrested,” the official added.
The incident has highlighted the need for proper handling of security protocols and the serious implications of allegations of inappropriate conduct within such sensitive environments. As investigations continue, both sides are preparing for a legal battle to address the conflicting claims.
