Daltonganj, Jan 11: A sub inspector of police Lalji Yadav was found hanging in his official quarter room in the premises of Nawa Bazar police station today.

Sources said that Yadav had returned from his previous place of posting in one of the police stations Burmu falling in Ranchi district yesterday evening (January 10). According to sources, he had gone there to hand over the charge of the ‘Maal Khana’ where he was the officer in-charge.

It is not clear as to what the immediate cause of provocation was, that led him to resort to committing suicide. Sources said that conjectures have begun as of now.

Additional SP K Vijay Shankar informed that preliminary investigation has revealed that the death of Lalji Yadav has been caused due to suicide last night owing to the complications arising out of the handing over the charge of the Maal Khana at Burmu PS.

SP Palamu Chandan Kumar Sinha has reached the Nawa Bazar police station on receiving the information. He has directed an in-depth inquiry into the tragic episode.

Irate residents have meanwhile blocked NH 98 with trucks and lorries in protest against the loss of life of a police officer. They are raising anti-police slogans too.

Notably, the police officer was put under suspension on charge of dereliction of duties and alleged raw behaviour with the District Transport Officer only five-six days ago.

Sources said that the police officer was said to have taken his suspension in his stride and wanted to dispose of the charge of the Maal Khana of the police station in Ranchi district.

Sub divisional police officer Surjit Kumar said he was on way to Ranchi when he was told of the suicide of Lalji Yadav and he immediately returned midway for Nawa Bazar police station.
