New Delhi, Aug 4: Congress’s Mallikarjun Kharge on Thursday hits out BJP over ED’s action on the National Herald case. “How can they summon me when Parliament is in session?” asked Kharge in the Rajya Sabha today, as the Enforcement Directorate has asked him to appear before it in the money laundering case linked to the National Herald.
“I received ED summon, they called me at 12.30pm. I want to abide by the law, but is it right for them to summon when Parliament is in session? Is it right for Police to gherao residences of Sonia Gandhi & Rahul Gandhi?..We won’t be scared, we’ll fight,” he said in Rajya Sabha.
The Young India Limited offices at Herald House in Delhi, which are owned by Associated Journals and operate the outlet, were sealed by the agency yesterday. The sealing had to be done since Mallikarjun Kharge, the company’s authorised agent, wasn’t present, according to ED authorities.
However, Kharge, the Rajya Sabha’s leader of the opposition, questioned the timing of summon. From the ruling BJP, Leader of the House Piyush Goyal countered his allegations, saying that the government does not interfere in the work of any law enforcement agency.
