New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Thursday mandated the National Testing Agency (NTA) to publish the results of all NEET-UG candidates city-wise and centre-wise on their website by 12 pm on Saturday, July 20. The directive includes masking the identity of the candidates to ensure privacy and transparency.
A bench comprising Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud and justices JB Pardiwla and Manoj Misra was addressing multiple petitions concerning alleged irregularities in the NEET-UG exam.
Senior advocate Narendra Hooda, representing the petitioners, emphasized the need for transparency by requesting the results of all students to be made public.
In response, the Solicitor General contended that the full results are not typically published as they are considered the personal property of the students.
Chief Justice Chandrachud suggested, “Why can’t you have dummy roll numbers in a sequence centre-wise?”
Following discussions, the court instructed the NTA to release the NEET-UG 2024 exam marks while ensuring that the students’ identities remain concealed.
CJI Chandrachud highlighted the importance of this measure: “What is happening is… the fact that there is a leak at Patna and Hazaribag is admitted… the question papers had been disseminated. We want to ensure whether this was confined to those centres or widespread. Students are at a handicap because they don’t know results. We want the students’ identity to be masked, but let us see centre-wise what was the mark pattern.”
