Jamshedpur, Dec 30: The Steel city witnessed a surge in Covid – 19 cases with 43 fresh cases being reported on Wednesday.

As per the test reports which arrived late on Wednesday evening most of the cases were from Kadma, Bistupur, Mango and Sonari. Such a large number of cases were reported after about seven months.

Jamshedpur has reported 13 cases on Monday and 14 cases on Tuesday.

The sudden surge has put the health department on its toes. ” For the past three days Covid cases have been reported in double-digit, leading the district administration to focus on more and more testing and vaccination, ”  said a health department official.

He pointed out that the number of Covid positive cases started to pick up again because of the peak marriage season which concluded recently and picnicking activities.

Though very few people are turning up at Jubilee Park located in the heart of the city, a large number of people are visiting Dimna lake and several lesser-known places for picnicking.

A senior district health department official said that the number of sample tests for Covid has been increased to 5,000 a day from 3,500 per day, concerned over surge in positive cases.
