Ranchi, Nov 5: Ranchi witnessed a slight increase in the sale of firecrackers during the festive season of Diwali in respect to the previous year. The increased sale attracted the bursting of firecrackers till midnight while the permissible time from the Jharkhand State Pollution Control Board was from 8 pm to 10 pm.
During a rough survey of the firecracker sellers across the district, it came to the fore that in the last two days before Diwali the sale of firecrackers increased.
Though the figure of crackers sold was not available with anyone but they observed an increase in the sale of the crackers this year.
A firecracker seller at Morhabadi ground said that in comparison to the previous year the sale is satisfactory in the wake of the pandemic.
“The consumers which used to purchase firecrackers worth Rs 1000 before the pandemic spent only Rs 700, so there is a decrease in the sale after the pandemic,” a firecracker seller said.
“The consumers who spent Rs 500 the previous year went on to spend Rs 700 this year on the crackers, in a similar way consumers went on to spend more this year,” a firecracker seller added.
“Because of Corona the sale dipped but this year it went as per the expectation with satisfactory sales,” another firecracker seller said.
“An eco-friendly pop-up cracker attracted a huge number of consumers and small kids were also attracted to that, it grabbed the attention as it neither cause any pollution as well as it is completely safe for the kids,” a firecracker seller said.
A day after the state announced to relax a host of Covid-19 curbs to allow people to shop and celebrate the upcoming festivities, a formal order was issued by the JSPCB permitting the fireworks only between 8 pm to 10 pm on Diwali, 6 am to 8 am during Chhath and 11.55 pm to 12.30 am during Christmas and New Year.
