Chennai, Jan 18: Under its ‘Scene At the Academy’ segment, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has decided to feature a video of director Gnanavel explaining his critically praised courtroom drama ‘Jai Bhim.’
The film’s opening sequences are featured in the 12-minute 47-second video clip. The video then cuts to filmmaker Gnanavel describing the film’s theme. This is followed by key scenes from the movie.
“The opening scene of the film shows the police segregating tribal people on the basis of caste. You could call it the film’s theme. How easily a powerful system can brand the oppressed as habitual offenders on the basis of caste,” director Gnanavel said in the video.
‘Jai Bhim,’ directed by TJ Gnanavel, is a hard-hitting courtroom drama about the fight for the oppressed and injustice based on caste. Suriya plays Chandru, a real-life lawyer who dedicated his life to fighting for the underprivileged without charging a single dollar. Gnanavel may also be seen in the Oscars video detailing how the plot was created and performed..
Fans took to social media to express their joy after witnessing a preview of Suriya’s film in the Oscars’ video. “Jai Bhim is on the rise. What a piece of information, “a person on social media said in a tweet.
“Pride of Indian cinema, Suriya,” another one wrote. For the unversed, ‘Jai Bhim’ also entered the Golden Globes 2022 as a nomination under the category of Best Non-English Language Film.
