Dhanbad, Dec 18: The Shahid Nirmal Mahto Medical College Hospital Teachers Association (SNMMCCHTA) has demanded a probe into firing on orthopaedic surgeon Dr. Vijay Pratap Sinha by some unidentified assailants on the Govindpur – Dhanbad Road (NH-32).
In a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner (DC) Sandip Singh and Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Sanjiv Kumar, the SNMMCH Teachers Association has asked for an investigation into why Dr. Sinha was shot, and if it was a targeted killing attempt.
Some unidentified assailants had fired bullets on Dr Vijay Pratap Sinha on Govindpur- Dhanbad road near Reliance petrol pump, Amghata at around 7.30 pm on Thursday while he was returning to Dhanbad after attending patients. The bullet shattered the glass window of his car and crossed, touching his jaw. He is currently admitted to Shakti Nursing Home, Joraphatak.
The injured doctor did not see the assailants. As the window pane shattered from the bullet, he first believed his mobile had burst. But having seen blood oozing out from the neck, he realized the firing and informed Dr. D P Bhushan who is the president of SNMMCHTA.
“The robbery theory cannot be accepted because the criminals left after the incident. It was a professional shooter’s act since only a skilled shooter could hit the target while driving along the congested Govindpur-Dhanbad road,” said Dr Bhushan.
Dr Bhushan, who is also head of the department orthopaedics of SNMMCH, had conducted the surgery of injured Dr Vijay. He said that the probe of the incident will expose the real criminals behind this incident.
Govindpur police had lodged an FIR and interrogated Dr. Rupa Prasad, the estranged wife of Dr Vijay Pratap Sinha, and driver of the car. SSP Sanjiv Kumar told media persons that the car of Dr Vijay bore the sign of a bullet. Robbery attempts also can’t be denied but the police are investigating from different angles.
