Technocrats of 18 engineering colleges to gather at IIT ISM to find solutions to govt departments’ issues

Dhanbad Aug 19: As many as 113 budding techies of 18 engineering colleges from across the country will find the solutions to problems being faced by different government departments during a two-day brainstorming session at IIT Indian School of Mines (ISM) Dhanbad on August 25-26.

The Innovation Cell of the Union Ministry of  Education has selected a total of 75 nodal centres in the country for this programme called ‘Smart India Hackathon (SIH) in which IIT ISM Dhanbad has also been selected as a platform for search.

The chairman of the organizing committee and deputy director of IIT ISM Dr Dhiraj Kumar said that event would be held at the Central Library Building of the institute.

Prof Pankaj Mishra, Dean (Innovation) of the IIT ISM, said during 36 hours of brainstorming session students would find out the solutions to fix problems being faced by the union ministry of labour and employment like complaint redressal machinery; guidance system for claims and needs of labourers; employment tracking and traceability system, employment tracking and traceability system, migrant labourer; e-buddy for rescued child labourer; and knowledge sharing platform for girls.

Giving details of the mega scientific event, Prof Mishra said 113 students of 18 different engineering colleges (including 69 male and 44 female candidates) will participate and they would be clubbed in different teams. Each team will have six members including a female student. The visiting teams will be accompanied by altogether 23 mentors.

Coordinator of Smart India Hackathon Prof Ajit Kumar said at IIT ISM nodal centre only the software part of the event is scheduled which means that the students will be using the coding technique to find out a solution to the problem.

Prof Ajit Kumar said that the inauguration will be held at around 8 am on August 25 and events related to coding will begin at 9.33 am.

“We have launched preparations to make elaborate arrangements for all aspects of events including, accommodation, transportation, food, medical and security arrangements as students will be spending 36 hours at the main venue developing software solutions for the problem. The results of the event would be declared on 8.20 pm on August 26,” he informed.
