Washington DC: US Senator Ted Cruz has accused members of former President Donald Trump’s administration—specifically JD Vance, Peter Navarro, and sometimes even Trump himself—of obstructing a trade deal with India. In newly surfaced audio recordings, Cruz is heard ridiculing Trump’s tariff policies and lamenting internal discord within the Republican leadership that stalled the long-anticipated India-US agreement.
Cruz Criticizes Trump’s Tariff Agenda
Speaking to donors in 2025, Cruz warned that Trump’s tariffs could severely damage the US economy. He recalled a late-night call where Trump reportedly shouted and cursed at senators who opposed the tariffs. Cruz feared economic fallout would cost Republicans the House and Senate in 2026, saying Trump would “spend the next two years being impeached every single week.” Trump’s blunt response to Cruz’s concerns: “F**k you, Ted.”
India Trade Deal Blocked Internally
Cruz told donors he had battled to get a trade deal with India approved, but faced internal resistance. He named economic adviser Peter Navarro, Vice President JD Vance, and sometimes Trump as key roadblocks. Cruz positioned himself as a pro-trade Republican and suggested the deal was hindered by populist, protectionist influences within the administration.
Vance Linked to Tucker Carlson
The senator also took aim at JD Vance, calling him a “pawn” of conservative podcaster Tucker Carlson. He accused Vance of mirroring Carlson’s anti-interventionist foreign policy and claimed, “Tucker created JD. JD is Tucker’s protege, and they are one and the same.” Cruz, a vocal critic of Carlson’s alleged antisemitism and foreign policy stance, has increasingly escalated this intra-party feud.
