Jamshedpur, August 23: Back-to-back suicides by two teens in the same locality in Adityapur triggered a sensation in the area on Tuesday.
Suraj Nayak (18), a resident of Motinagar locality in Adityapur, was found hanging from the ceiling fan in his house this morning just 12 days after his bosom friend Sumit Gorai committed suicide in the same locality.
On getting the information about the incident, a police party from Adityapur police station rushed to the spot and recovered the body of Suraj to send it to the Seraikela Sadar Hospital for postmortem.
Adityapur police station OC Rajan Kumar confirmed it to be a case of suicide, but could not give any strong reason behind the drastic step.
“The deceased used to work in a local tent-house and used to consume excessive liquor. We did not find any solid reason behind the suicide,” said Kumar while talking to lagatar24.com.
The bereaved family members, however, revealed that Suraj was depressed after his bosom friend Sumit Gorai committed suicide a few days ago.
“Suraj and his friend Sumit who were of the same age group would work in a tent-house and used to consume liquor together regularly. Ever since Sumit committed suicide at his house in Motinagar on August 10, Suraj had turned extremely sad and would talk hardly with anyone,” said the deceased’s sister.
She pointed out that on Monday night Suraj returned home under the influence of liquor and remained awake till late in the night.
“My brother had gone to bed having shut the door from inside but he did not open the door at his usual time. When he did not open the door despite the inordinate delay, we first knocked at the door and subsequently broke open it to find him hanging from the ceiling fan,” she narrated, adding that her only brother might have taken the drastic step after getting terribly shocked after his friend’s death.
