Patna: Heated scenes unfolded in the Bihar Assembly during the ongoing budget session after Leader of Opposition Tejashwi Yadav launched a fierce attack on the state government, raising the issue of worsening law and order. His controversial remarks referencing women being sold for ₹20–25,000, citing a past BJP leader’s comment from Uttarakhand, triggered a strong backlash from NDA legislators.
Crime at Peak, Where’s the Rule of Law?
Tejashwi slammed the Nitish-led NDA government, questioning, “Where is the rule of law?” He listed shocking recent crimes including the rape of a NEET aspirant, kidnappings and murders in Khagaria and Muzaffarpur, alleging the state had descended into “jungle raj”. He added, “Even animals would be offended by this term now.”
Fiery Barbs and Counterattacks
Tejashwi accused the NDA of reducing democracy to “gun-tantra” and said, “The police are silent, the administration unconscious, and the government intoxicated.” Calling the NDA “100% negligent,” he accused it of transforming jan-tantra (people’s rule) into dhan-tantra (money rule) and machine-tantra (mechanical rule).
His remarks about women reportedly being “sold” drew sharp objection from NDA’s women MLAs, sparking chaos and slogans inside the House. Speaker Prem Kumar allowed Tejashwi to speak seated due to a leg injury.
BJP Leaders Fire Back
Deputy CM Vijay Sinha slammed Tejashwi, calling him the “Crown Prince of Jungle Raj.” He said, “People who can’t respect daughters-in-law of their own home can’t claim to represent society.” CM Nitish Kumar too objected to the language used by Tejashwi, accusing him of leveling baseless allegations.
