Dhanbad, Sept 22: All the 13 youths from Nagar Kurnool district of Telangana, who were arrested under suspicion of cybercrime, were sent to judicial custody after their confession on Wednesday.
They informed the Dhanbad cyber police that a person named Bikram had called them to Dhanbad in the name of some job and they arrived on August 3. Bikram, who ran the call centre along with Avinash received them at Dhanbad railway station and settled in the apartment. He provided them with smart phones and laptops. After proper training, they were provided telephone numbers and asked to cheat the people of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh in their local language in the name of insurance. From August 10 to September 20, they had cheated hundreds of people on the 20% commission offered by Bikram.
The names of the arrested people are Khetavat Raj Nayak, Katravath Santosh, Muravath Ganesh, Degavath Srinivasulu, Khetavath Raju, E Ganesh, Ketravath Raju Kumar, Mudavath Venkatesh, Katravath Ravat Harilal, Katravath Ganesh, Ratlavath Krishna Nayak, K Ishwar, and J Venkatesh.
Dhanbad police had arrested them from a flat in an apartment in Bekarbandh area under Sadar police station on September 20. They were operating from a call centre run by the local cyber criminals who are still absconding after the raid. Cyber Inspector Jitendra Kumar informed that police had also seized 22 mobile phones and two laptops from the arrested criminals.
The kingpin of crime Bikram, Avinash and Kundan are said to be residents of Jharia ( Dhanbad) and were absconding till Wednesday afternoon.
