Dhanbad, Oct 10: Three new medical colleges of the state finally received one-year admission approval from the National Medical Commission (NMC) for the 2022-23 academic sessions.

Member president of the Medical Assessment and Rating Board has shot off a mail as well as a letter to the principal of Phulo Jhanno Medical College Dumka, Mednirai Medical College Palamu and Sheikh Bhikhari Medical College Hazaribag regarding approval for admission.

“I am directed to convey the approval of the Medical Assessment and Rating Board (MARB) for the renewal of permission for admission of the 3rd batch (2nd renewal) against the intake of 100 MBBS at your institution. The MARB has approved after consideration of the affidavit submitted by you,” said the Member President in his letter to the trio medical colleges of Jharkhand.

In 2021, the NMC had given one-year admission approval on 100 MBBS seats to these colleges. The other two old institutions of the state- Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Medical Hospital in Jamshedpur and Shahid Nirmal Mahto Medical College Hospital in Dhanbad, have 100 and 50 MBBS seats approval respectively.

Dumka Medical College principal Dr Arun Kumar Choudhary and outgoing principal of Palamu Medical College Dr Shailendra Kumar admitted that they have received the admission approval letter from NMC.

However, the principal of Hazaribagh Medical College had not received the mail till Sunday but a senior official of the health department’s medical education wing said that permission has been given to all three institutions.

Notably, admission in the three medical colleges of the state was under a cloud as the NMC had not approved for the 2022-23 academic session. However, now the NEET result has been declared and the health department is prepared for the counselling of selected students.

The trio medical colleges of Jharkhand started with 100 MBBS seats in the 2019 academic session but the NMC banned the admission in the 2020 session due to deficiencies of faculty members, doctors and mandatory infrastructure.

However, in the 2021 academic session, the NMC approved one academic session. Now, the NMC  Member president has approved for 3rd MBBS batch admission in all trio medical colleges.
