Jamshedpur, Feb 11: Demanding the removal of Jainism influence from Parasnath hills and implementation of the Sarna code, activists of Aadivasi Sengal Abhiyaan (ASA) set up a blockade on the railway track between Chandil-Purulia section and Tatanagar-Chakulia, causing disruption in the movement of trains for hours together.

Organised by the Kolhan unit of the ASA, thousands of people belonging to the tribal community jammed the railway tracks in the section by putting up banners and holding placards in support of their demands.

The agitation which began at 6.00 am today, the railway tracks to remain jammed for more than three hours.  As a result of the blockade, several trains including Steel Express, Puri-Delhi Purushottam Express, Barkakhana-Hatia Passenger and Tata-Danapur Superfast had to either remain stranded at Tatanagar and other railway stations or cancelled, causing immense difficulties to the passengers.

The blockade on the railway tracks was cleared after the intervention of the Railway Protection Force and the local police.

Those leading the stir while negotiating with the railway police and local police have given an ultimatum to resort to similar agitation if their demands were not met by April 11.
