Ranchi: A special Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) court in Ranchi has convicted treasury officer Pawan Kumar Kedia for demanding a bribe in exchange for work allotment. The verdict was pronounced by ACB Special Judge Yogesh Kumar Singh, who found the Doranda treasury officer guilty of corruption charges. Kedia has been taken into custody and sent to jail following the court’s order. The hearing on the quantum of his sentence is scheduled for March 29.
The case dates back to May 2013, when Prashant Kumar Das, a clerk in the same department, lodged a complaint with the ACB on May 27. According to the complaint, Das, who was responsible for bill processing at the Doranda treasury office, had requested a different work assignment. In response, Kedia allegedly demanded a bribe of Rs 30,000 to approve the reassignment.
After verifying the complaint, the ACB laid a trap and arrested Kedia on May 29, 2013, with the bribe money in his possession.
Following a prolonged trial, the court finally delivered its verdict, holding the accused guilty of corruption under relevant provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act.
