Ranchi/Saraikela: A major rail accident occurred early Saturday morning near Chandil Junction in Saraikela district when a freight train derailed and its wagons spilled over onto an adjacent track, colliding with another freight train. The incident took place under the Adra railway division between Pitki railway gate and Chandil station.

According to officials, an iron ore-laden freight train travelling from Tatanagar towards Purulia derailed shortly after passing Chandil station. Several wagons toppled onto the opposite track, where they were struck by an oncoming freight train. The collision caused multiple wagons of the second train to derail as well.

The accident happened around 4:00 AM. Fortunately, both trains involved were freight services — averting the potential for significant loss of life had a passenger train been involved.

Local residents reported hearing a loud crashing noise before discovering the mangled trains. Railway officials and rescue teams quickly reached the site to begin relief operations. The exact cause of the derailment is yet to be determined, and an official inquiry has been launched.
