New Delhi, Aug 9: Israeli forces attacked a home in Nablus, a city in the occupied West Bank, killing two Palestinians, including a senior militant commander, the army reported.

The most recent bloodshed occurs two days after a truce was imposed to stop the bloody fighting between Israeli forces and Islamic Jihad militants in the coastal strip of Gaza.

An AFP reporter saw Palestinians and Israeli security forces exchanging gunfire in the old city of Nablus.

According to the Palestinian health ministry, at least 40 Palestinians were injured, with four of them in critical condition.

“The terrorist Ibrahim al-Nabulsi was killed in the city of Nablus. Another terrorist who was staying in the house also died,”the Israeli army said in a statement.

Nabulsi was the leader of the Al-Aqsa Martyrs’ Brigade, a significant militant organisation operating in the West Bank and affiliated with the dominant Fatah movement.

Other areas of Nablus saw clashes with the Israeli army as Palestinians threw stones at the soldiers.

Numerous Israeli military vehicles blocked traffic in one of the biggest cities in the West Bank while loud shooting could be heard.
