New Delhi, April 11: Atiq Ahmed, a gangster-turned-politician who is charged in the murder of Umesh Pal, will be sent to Prayagraj in Uttar Pradesh on Tuesday. With a new warrant, the mafia would be taken to Prayagraj under heavy police security.
Soon, a police team headed by an inspector-in-charge and thirty constables is anticipated to go for Prayagraj. According to the sources, Ahmed would be transported from Ahmedabad via Udaipur and Shivpur under heavy police guard. The police crew will transport Atiq back to UP along with a vehicle and two jail guards.
Atiq Ahmed, a gangster-politician, and two other people were found guilty on March 28 and given life sentences in the 2006 Umesh Pal abduction case by an MP-MLA court. Khalid Azim alias Ashraf, Ahmed’s brother, and six other defendants have all been freed from charges.
Atiq Ahmed was transported from Sabarmati Central Jail in Ahmedabad to Prayagraj for his conviction in the 2006 abduction case following a roughly 24-hour-long car trip. The former Lok Sabha MP was transported from Ahmedabad for a court hearing and lodged in the Naini Central Jail in Prayagraj.
Ahmed will be returned by the same police squad that escorted him last month, sources claim.
