New Delhi, Jan 24: Dharmendra Pradhan, the Union Minister for Education, Skill Development, and Entrepreneurship, tested the BharOS indigenous operating system created by the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras (IIT).

“Congratulations to everyone involved in developing the system. For the very first time when our Prime Minister Narendra Modiji talked about digital India 8 years ago, some of our friends mocked him, but today, technocrats, innovators, industries and policymakers, and academic institutions of the country have accepted his vision after eight years,” he said.

Minister of Railways, Communications and Electronics & IT Ashwini Vaishnaw on Tuesday at the launch of ‘BharOS’ warned that many people around the world will bring difficulties in the path of ‘BharOS,’ a Made-in-India mobile operating system developed by IIT Madras-incubated firm.

The Union Minister said, “The challenge starts from here. We have to remain unfazed in this journey and not get tired even for a day.”

“There will be a lot of difficulties and there are many people around the world who will bring difficulties and will not want any such system to be successful.”

He also suggested suffixing the letter ‘a’ at the end of the operating system’s name, making it ‘BharOSa,’ which means trust.
The recent launch of ‘BharOS’ by an IIT Madras-incubated company, JandK Operations Private Limited has been getting a lot of mixed reactions from people around the world.
The ‘BharOS’ can be installed on commercial off-the-shelf handsets. Currently, Its services are being provided only to organisations that have stringent privacy and security requirements and whose users handle sensitive information that requires confidential communications on restricted apps on mobiles, reported PTI.
The home-grown mobile operating system comes with No Default Apps (NDA), which means users will not be forced to use apps that they may not be familiar with or that they may not trust. The newly developed system grants access to trusted apps from PASS. PASS is a platform that offers access to a list of apps that have met or stand on the standard security or privacy parameters.
Like android phones, the users will automatically receive NOTA (Native Over The Air) updates. They don’t have to initiate the process of auto updating.
According to JandK Operations Private Limited, ‘BharOS’ has been created in support to Prime Minister Modi’s goal of making India ‘Atmanirbhar.’
