Lucknow, May 12: The Uttar Pradesh government has made it mandatory for all students and professors in madrasas to sing the National Anthem before classes begin. The order went into effect today, May 12th.
This directive was issued by Danish Azad Ansari, a UP minority state minister. The decision was made at the UP Madrasa Education Board meeting on March 24. The implementation order was signed on May 9.
According to the order, schools shall continue to sing religious prayers as well as the national song, ‘Jana Gana Mana.’
Notably, due to Ramazan the madrasas were closed from March 30 to May 11. The order went into effect today, after the schools reopened on Thursday, May 12. The order will apply to all recognised madrasas, both aided and unaided.
The decision comes nearly five years after the Uttar Pradesh Madrasa Board declared the National Anthem recital and flag hoisting mandatory on Independence Day in 2017.
