Lucknow, Oct 20: Congress Secretary Priyanka Gandhi has been detained by UP Police after she was stopped from travelling to Agra for meeting the family of a sanitation worker who died in police custody.

“Section 144 is imposed, congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra is being taken to police lines. She will not be allowed to proceed to Agra”, said a police official.

In response, Priyanka said that the moment she tries to visit any other place than the party office, the administration tries to stop her.

“The situation of the police itself has become such that they are unable to say anything. Even their officers know that this is wrong; there is no law and order issue behind it. Everywhere it is said that Section-144 is applicable”, said Priyanka Gandhi.

“On the death of someone, how can law and order be disturbed by being allowed to meet the family members of his house? To please you guys, may I sit comfortably in the guest house of Lucknow. Where is the justice to beat someone to death in police custody?” she further added.

Notably, a sanitation worker was arrested by police yesterday in connection with a theft of Rs 25 Lakhs from a warehouse on 17 October and died in police custody.
